Winter Wonderland at the St. Augustine Amphitheater

Over the next coming months, it is finally time to dust off your snow boots and get ready for the sixth annual Winter Wonderland held at the St. Augustine amphitheater. Beginning Friday, November 23, 2012 and running through Sunday, January 6, 2013, the public will have access to North Florida’s best outdoor ice skating rink.

The host of the event, the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division, hopes to have an even higher attendance than last year expecting nearly 80,000 parents, children, and friends to participate in their Winter Wonderland activities.

Carnival Games & Rides

With carnival games, Igloo Ski Lodge, and Inflatable Obstacle Course, there is tons of fun for the entire family. Everyone can enjoy the Junior Holly Jolly Trolley, nightly snowfall, sleigh rides, the Elf Village, face paintings, and, of course, an enjoyable visit with Santa Claus.

This year’s event will have the newly converted Ice Chute that has been transformed from last year’s Ice Slide. This amazing 140 foot inner tube ride will have you taking the trip of your life under the canopy of the amphitheater. Another wild ride is the RC Race Track where every rider can take control of their own mini racecar on the tricky turns of an enjoyable dirt track.

Special Scheduled Events

There is a large variety of food and beverage options along with major activities for all children of every age. You can participate in any of the special events scheduled for this year, including the WQIK Country Night scheduled for December 4th, and a special performance on December 8th, presented by the Fruit Cove Middle School Band. Additionally, you will not want to miss the 2nd Annual Chili Cook off on December 15, presented by the Professional Firefighters of St. Augustine.

There is no need to wait to see Santa on Christmas. The event is open every day from now until January 6, 2013. Santa arrives promptly at 5 PM every evening, and stays until it is time to get back to the North Pole at 8:30 PM. The entire family can enjoy a sleigh ride or train ride along with all the other fun.

Surprisingly, the admission into Santa’s Winter Wonderland is free. However, there are fees associated with some optional activities. There is ample parking in front of the St. Augustine amphitheater with overflow parking at the Elks Lodge.
