Details of This Year’s Annual Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra Nutcracker

With James Lowe conducting the orchestra to Rhonda Stampalia’s choreography, the magical world of the Nutcracker Suite has once again arrived here in Jacksonville to ring in the holiday season. With the event scheduled this year for Friday, December 14 at 8 PM, Saturday, December 15 at both 2 PM and 8 PM, and Sunday, December 16 at 2 PM, a great holiday tradition lives on at the Times-Union Center, Moran Theater, in Jacksonville.

Once again, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, along with the First Coast Nutcracker dance troupe, will fascinate their entire audience. The ensemble will showcase renowned dancers taking to the stage in their interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s timeless melodies. With more than 180 young dance students in the dance troupe, all chosen from the community, many will be performing in their first world-class ballet production in this timeless classic.

While the holiday season is always some of the best times of the year to spend with family and friends, enjoying the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky offers a way to celebrate like no other in Jacksonville Florida. For over 40 years, the First Coast Nutcracker Ballet dance troupe has enchanted decades of families and friends that have attended annual performances.

This year’s principal dancers include two Joffrey Ballet members: Ogulcan Bovova and Yumelia Garcia. In his debut performance, the First Coast Nutcracker, will be conductor James Lowe. He brings with him his New York reputation as the conductor for Anything Goes on Broadway during its Tony award-winning revival.

Again this year, the Nutcracker Boutique, held by the Symphony Guild, will be situated in the lobby during all four performances of the event. The lobby will be open to all ticket holders 1½ hours before the curtain rise, allowing significant time to find a variety of presents for the holiday season. As one of the major annual fundraisers of the Symphony Guild, the Nutcracker Boutique will offer many treasures for holiday shoppers that always benefit a needy cause in the community.

The First Coast Nutcracker Ballet offers entertainment for children and music lovers of every age. The amazing choreography with noted guest artists and enchanting costumes will fill the mesmerizing and magical set of the Nutcracker.
